In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Radiohead's "Hail to the Thief" album, I set out to create a potential campaign including physical and digital advertisements, and an anniversary edition vinyl and poster with imagery that references lyrics found in the album.
The inspiration for this poster took imagery from their long-time album artist Stanley Donwood, with the intent to create a piece that would remain in harmony with the complete body of Radiohead posters and albums. The dapper wolf is in reference to the song "Wolf at the Door" from the titular album. His threatening presence is intentional, again referencing the lyric that states that this wolf is ready to "tell you all the ways he's going to mess you up."
Here, the wolf imagery is brought to the cover of the album, using more art from the same series Stanley Donwood created and used for the original album cover. Bright colors and negative space create a flow through the album interior, with a particular focus on the song that inspired the theming of the anniversary campaign
The top three panels are an instagram carasol. The wolf leads us to the information on the exclusive release, and finally brings us to what would be the first reveal of the anniversary edition features. Below is an Instagram story post that advertises when the record would hit the shelves, with information added on the social media site with appropriate links.
These pages are magazine advertisements showing off the art and features of the anniversary edition, again borrowing imagery from Stanley Donwood. Custom QR codes lead the reader to the W.A.S.T.E store - Radiohead's official merchandise store, where the album and poster - sold separately or in a bundle - would be posted for direct purchase.
